Abstract
The burden of diseases on human species is in continuous change. Looking at the industrial world and over the centuries, the burden has evolved due to a number of factors ranging from high morbidity and high mortality of the pre-industrial communities through crowded urban cities of the industrialisation with poor sanitation and lack of hygiene to current balance of post-modern well-to-do societies. Looking at the developing countries of contemporary world, we see the globe divided. While the western societies provide a high standard of living for the majority of their people, those living beyond the dividing line suffer from diseases and epidemics causing avoidable loss of life and short life expectance. To understand how and when the current disease distribution will change one must understand some profound developments underway on the global level. In my presentation I will focus on two most important factors affecting the changes in diseases distributions. The first one is global warming making way to many various factors threatening human health. The second one is world population growth leading to the development of mega cities highly vulnerable both as regards epidemics and hazards of various natures. After this, I will reflect some of the predicted changes in disease distributions.
